Mario Kart Wii Controller Controls

Mario Kart Wii allows you to use all several different controller to steer your kart or bike in the game. The controllers the game uses includes the Wii Remote in the Wii Wheel or alone, the Wii Remote & Nunchuck, Classic Controller and the Nintendo GameCube Controller. Try each controller to be able to determine which one you prefer to use when steering.

Wii Remote in Wii Wheel

Wii Remote In Wii Wheel
Buy an additional Official Nintendo Wii Wheel
  • Steering - Turn the Wii Wheel right or left to steer.
  • Accelerate - Press the 2 button
  • Drift, Brake or Reverse - Use the B button or 1 button to drift, brake, reverse, hop or cancel.
  • Look Backward - Press A button
  • To Use Items - Press the directional pad.
  • Perform Tricks - Shake the Wii Wheel when jumping.
  • Perform Wheelies - only when riding a bike, lift the Wii Wheel up. To end the wheelie, push the Wii Wheel down.
  • Pause - Press the + button.
  • Home Menu - Press the home button

Wii Remote & Nunchuk

Buy an additional Wii Remote Controller or Wii Nunchuk Controller
  • Accelerate - Press A Button
  • Drift, Brake or Reverse - Use the B button to drift, brake, reverse, hop or cancel.
  • Look Backward - Press C button
  • Steering - use the Nunchuk
  • To Use Items - Press the Z button
  • Pause Menu - Press the + button
  • Home Menu - Press the home button
  • Perform Tricks - Shake the Wii Remote when jumping.
  • Perform Wheelies - only when riding a bike, lift the Wii Remote up. To end the wheelie, push the Wii Remote down.

  • Accelerate - Press a button
  • Steering - Use the L stick
  • Drift, Brake or Reverse - Use the b button or R button to drift, brake, reverse, and hop.
  • Look Backward - Press X button or ZR buttons.
  • To Use Items - Press the L button
  • Pause Menu - Press the + button
  • Cancel - Press the b button
  • Home Menu - Press the home button
  • Perform Tricks - Press the directional pad.
  • Perform Wheelies - Press the directional pad up or down buttons when riding a bike.

Nintendo GameCube Controller

Get a Wii Wireless GameCube Controller
  • Accelerate - Press A button
  • Drift - Press B button or R button to brake, reverse or hop.
  • To Use Items - Press L button
  • Look Backward - Press X button or Z button
  • Steering - Press the directional stick
  • Perform Tricks - Press the directional pad.
  • Perform Wheelies - Press the directional pad up or down buttons when riding a bike.
  • Pause Menu - press the Start/Pause button
  • Select - use the directional pad
  • Cancel - use the B button
Note: Do not pull on the Nintendo GameCube controller during play or eject the Game Disc while changing the GameCube Controller.
