Nintendo has release the most download Wii Virtual Console classic games. Nintendo reports that “more than 4.7 million classic games have been downloaded, at a rate of 1,000 games every” since the Wii’s release.
Nintendo's Wii currently has over 55 games out for the Wii console, but more than 100 Virtual Console games available to be redeem with
Wii Points
. Players can go to the Wii Shop Channel and download the classic games from the original systems such has Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super NES, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis and the TurboGrafx16 game systems. These classic games bring back memories for old-gamers and let the younger gamer see how it use to be. Games are easy to download and most importantly give players more game options. On June 4, 2007, Nintendo marked it’s 100th classic game out for the Wii Shop Channel, Zelda II – The Adventure of Link.
With the popularity of the Wii console, it’s Wii remote controller features, the channels and Virtual Console it’s no surprise Nintendo Wii’s have been so difficult to find. It is also no surprise that the Top 5 most downloaded Wii Virtual Console games are original Nintendo game titles, which were top-sellers in their platforms.
The top five classic game downloaded to date since the Wii's release in Nov. 2006 are:
- Super Mario Bros. (NES) - 500 Wii Points
- Super Mario 64 (N64) - 1000 Wii Points
- Mario Kart 64 (N64) - 1000 Wii Points
- Super Mario World (SNES) - 800 Wii Points
- The Legend of Zelda (NES) - 500 Wii Points
More Virtual Console games are added to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. The Wii Shop Channel is only one of a set of channels Wii owners can enjoy. Besides the Wii Shop Channel, there are 6 channels currently available through the Wii console; the Mii Channel, Internet Channel, Forecast Channel, News Channel, Photo Channel and the Everybody Votes Channel.
